Industrial Injection PDM-12VSTH 12V Performance Cylinder Head that is a CNC ported head for your daily driver or weekend warrior 1989-1998 Dodge 5.9L Diesel.

CNC Ported Cylinder Head:
A 5 Axis CNC Cylinder Head Porting Machine with CAD/CAM software specifically developed for cylinder head porting was used in the porting process. CNC porting improves head porting accuracy by ensuring that each port flows in the same amount. This balances the power produced by each cylinder, making tuning easier. Industrial Injection then hand blends each port to perfection after the CNC process. The ports are monitored using a Superflow 600 flow bench with a computer documenting all flow measurements.

New Performance Stainless Steel Valves:
For optimum durability, performance, and longevity, Industrial Injection uses updated stainless steel valves with a nitrate coating.

High Strength Alloy Valve Guides:
The valve guides have been replaced with new high-strength alloy, heat-treated iron-based valve guides. These guides have been heat treated to a Rockwell "C" scale of 22 for maximum wear resistance. The original guide material, including Bronze, is considerably inferior to this alloy. A spiral grove is incorporated into the guide to store oil and aid in valve lubrication during engine operation.

Drilled & Tapped Coolant Freeze Plugs In Head:
Press-in freeze plugs in the factory head are prone to leaking and blowing out behind the valve cover. With these cylinder heads, drilling and tapping the freeze plugs ensures that failure will never occur. Others employ leak-prone aluminum plugs, whereas Industrial Injection uses high-quality steel plugs.

Fire Ringed Head:
The fire ringed head process was created to work with Industrial Injections proprietary fire ring head gasket. This gasket uses a radius cut steel fire ring to practically eliminate head gasket failure while allowing you to drive your truck on a daily basis with confidence in its lifetime.

Valve Springs:
Industrial Injection uses brand new performance 150lb valve springs that are custom built in the United States. These springs were engineered by Industrial Injection to provide higher lift than the competition. Before assembly, each valve spring is tested several times in-house to ensure that it retains its correct spring rate.

The Build Process:
To remove oil and debris, heads are first jet cleaned in a high-pressure spray cabinet, then glass beaded to remove carbon. Then they're tested using magnafluxing (only for cast iron) or pressure testing. They are evaluated visually for flaws that would render them unsuitable. For porting, valve guides and seats are removed as needed.

When building a cylinder head Port, several factors are taken into account; air flow is just one of them. Another key consideration is the thickness of the port walls. Anyone can make a head that produces high flow rates, but if the port wall is left too thin, the casting will break. Because of the thermal stress caused by extreme intermittent or long-term exhaust temperatures, high-performance Diesel heads are more prone to cracking. Then, porting is done on a new 5 axis CNC Cylinder Head Porting Machine with CAD/CAM software created exclusively for cylinder head porting. CNC porting improves head porting accuracy by ensuring that each port flows in the same amount. This balances the power produced by each cylinder, making tuning easier.

The valve guides have been replaced with new high-strength alloy, heat-treated iron-based valve guides. A diamond honing mandrel is then used to hone (not reamed) these guides to their proper size. Diamond abrasives ensure that the size, surface finish, and bore geometry are all consistent from one guide to the next. A valve guide bore gauge is then used to verify the guide size.

The head is then given a multi angle valve job to enhance the flow of air in and out of the runners.  A Serdi 100 guide and seat machine is used to accomplish this.
Serdi's pilot utilizes a solid carbide straight shank.  This simulates the real valve stem during the centering process, ensuring the valve seat is finished for a precise valve to seat match.

The head is resurfaced using CBN or Diamond tooling. Industrial Injection can manage the surface finish of different head gasket types with a Berco milling machine. Finally, this cylinder head is jet washed, dried, and reassembled with new performance valve springs and valve seals.
